Nutrition 101

As a mother of 4, my life is beyond busy! I do my best to get my kids to the bus stop on time, help with homework, and get to soccer practice and gymnastics. Amongst all of the craziness in my life, feeding my children well and nutritiously is a high priority. I have good intentions, but truthfully, I don’t have the time to research, Google, and wade through all of the information that’s out there to find out what my family really should or shouldn’t be eating.

I want to share with you a perfect solution. One of my new favorite books Nutrition 101: Choose Life by authors Debra Raybern, Sera Johnson, Laura Hopkins, and Karen Hopkins has made eating healthy easy! If you are a busy Mom like me, this book has all of the answers you are looking for when it comes to feeding your family nutritiously. This great book contains so much information, but most importantly it contains a family nutrition and health program.

The program outlined in the book works for all ages, from toddlers to adults. It will help you with your grocery shopping, meal planning and eventually will result in making healthy choices when it comes to eating, second nature. Each chapter includes information about body systems and how food affects them. For example, chapter 4 talks about how food affects emotions. We’ve all heard and used the term “comfort food”.

Undoubtedly when you are sad or depressed, you have your favorite comfort food that you turn to and usually that comfort food is high in sugar content. Throughout the pages of Nutrition 101: Choose Life you will discover healthier options to comfort food. It is so important, especially during difficult times in our lives, to feed our brains with proper nutrients.

The authors of this book teach us that “any time the brain is deprived of critical nutrients or is bombarded with food toxins like additives and preservatives, the hormone and chemical balance is disrupted and brain function is affected including emotional stability”. (p.276) As you read through the pages of this book, you will learn what foods affect your brain both positively and negatively.

Also included throughout the book are many diverse and healthy recipes. Have fun with your family making these new recipes and learning together how important healthy food is!

EDR – Chemical Sensitivities and Allergies

Each of us is so similar in makeup and behavioral patterns that we occasionally forget how different we truly are.  Some people are artistically gifted, others are musically inclined, and others are destined to break sports records across the globe.  Some people like chocolate, some don’t.  Some people go through their entire life without a single broken bone while others are, to put it delicately, accident prone.  You may notice that members of your family, even with the similar genetic makeup, can still exhibit extreme differences; hair color, height, weight, likes and dislikes, etc.  You may also notice that one or two may experience horrible allergies in the spring while others experience them in the fall.  It’s all a matter of our chemical makeup.

Essential Oils can affect different people in different ways as well.  Occasionally, individuals who begin to use quality essential oils can suffer a rash or an allergic reaction.  This may be due to using an undiluted version of the oil.  Specifically, an undiluted spice, conifer or citrus oil can cause a reaction to the skin, or it may be caused when the oil interacts with residues from personal care products that have leached into the skin.  No matter what the cause, it is important to educate yourself about the proper use of essential oils and also about how to treat a reaction should one occur in yourself or a family member.

For example, when using Essential Oils on a daily basis, it is imperative to avoid personal care products that contain ammonium or hydrocarbon-based chemicals.   These include quaternary compounds and are commonly found in a variety of hand creams, mouthwashes, shampoos, antiperspirants, after-shave lotions and hair care products.  Even in small concentrations, they can be toxic when mixed with an essential oil.  It is possible for them to react with essential oils and product chemical byproducts of unknown toxicity.  These chemicals can be fatal if ingested, especially benzalkonium chloride, which is found in many personal care products on the market today.   Other compounds found in everything from shampoo to toothpaste to deodorants can also react strongly with Essential Oils.

Always keep in mind that a new health regimen, even a natural one with Essential Oils, may require some careful consideration when mixing with your old habits.  For more information about how to use Essential Oils to create the best health results, as well as how to treat a rash or reaction to your daily personal care products, consult the Essential Oil Desk Reference, available through YL Wisdom directly by calling 800.366.6308 or visiting www.ylwisdom.com.  Are you advance into the world of Essential Oils, you may want to check out the Pocket Reference Book as well for your health on the go!

Raindrop Technique

Are you looking for a natural way to boost your immune system? Perhaps you have noticed lately that you seem to feel not quite yourself, and that you get tired easily.   Maybe your stress level seems a little high and you feel unable to focus.  As a general rule, your typical day is probably filled with more “things to do” and “places to go” than it would have been a generation ago.  There is more of a need to be twenty places at once and do it all with a smile on your face and a feather in your step.  Although the challenges are greater in today’s world, you may find that the answers to your questions actually come from a time long ago.

The solutions you’re searching for can be found within the Raindrop Technique which is based on a beautiful practice by the Lakota Indians in South Dakota, along with research of essential oils as antimicrobial agents and the understanding of Vita Flex technology with reflex points in the feet.  Several generations ago, long before the border to Canada was well established, the Lakota Indians would migrate over into the northern regions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba to witness Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.  They believed that the air was charged with a healing energy and by breathing deeply, they could bring that healing energy into their bodies, through their spine, and back out through their torso.  As migration opportunities became limited, the Lakota substituted the actual exposure to the north lights for the use of “effleurage” which means “to skim” or “to lightly touch.”  They began to practice the Raindrop Technique by using a rhythmic form of massage involving soft, feathered-finger strokes along the skin, which were coupled with mentally processing the healing energy throughout the body.   This technique was formally adopted in 1989 as a notable healing technique and has since received an enormous amount of praise from users all over the world for help with relaxation, emotional release, tissue cleansing and spinal misalignments.

The Essential Oils utilized in the Raindrop Technique can help restore calm and support your immune system.  These potent therapeutic-grade oils include oregano, basil, wintergreen, peppermint, thyme, cypress and marjoram, as well as the two oils blends, Energy Balance Blend and Muscle Relaxing Blend.  This combination has been thoroughly researched and each oil was selected to seamlessly combine with the others. These oils combined with a feather-lite massage will lighten your spirits and allow you to enjoy a new level of health.  Make each day a little brighter by supporting your body the natural way.  For more information, visit here.

Essential Oil Desk Reference

Are you ready to start growing your Essential Oils business? You have received the starter kit, you have

talked to your friends and family about the opportunity… now what? There is more to an Essential Oil
than you realize. You must do more than learn the oil names and find people to whom you want to sell the
oils. The Essential Oil Desk Reference provides basic guidelines that will help you use and demonstrate
the oils safely. It will also walk you through detailed descriptions and usage guides for each oil to ensure
that you exhaust the benefits and provide the best service to your clients.

Start with some basics. First, always have a small vial of vegetable oil on hand, whether you are using the
oils personally or demonstrating them to a group. The vegetable oil can be used to dilute any essential
oil if, when used, it begins to cause skin irritation or discomfort. When presenting to a group, always
clearly explain the possibility of skin irritation with the person. Let them know it’s okay if the oil does
not respond well with their skin and that you are ready to take care of any issue that arises. It’s better
to let them know the ground rules than to have someone respond negatively when they’re surprised.

In an effort to maintain the potency of your Essential Oils for longer time period, always store them in
tightly sealed containers and keep them away from direct light. This will help you two fold – first, you
will have a greater desired effect from your oils and you will be able to better predict the results of any
application. Second, this will extend the shelf life of your oils which means you are going to get a better
return on your investment. When you are preparing for a home presentation, double check all of your
sample vials to ensure they are tightly sealed and ready for travel.

Remember that these oils can be treated as any other medicine or skin care product. Keep them away
from small children and animals and do not ingest them. These oils are very fragrant and while adults
know that they are for external use only, it’s harder to explain that to a small child or animal that only
understands that the oil smells good.

My challenge to you – go through your essential oil supply. Make sure that all of your bottles are in good
shape – no cracks or leaks in the bottles. If you are looking to expand your sales opportunity, browse
through the Essential Desk Reference and explore the possibilities. Find a particular ailment that you are
looking to alleviate, or a specific mood that you are trying to create, and find the oils that are best suited
for that. In an effort to assist you with your business, we are now offering the Essential Desk Reference
for 20% off the regular price. Call today and add depth to your understanding and increase your business
possibilities!
