EDR – Auricular Aroma Technique

When was the last time you looked at your ears? Not just a casual glance as you styled your hair or tried
on a new hat, but really, truly looked at your ear and stood in awe at how complex it was and how much
potential it had to affect your daily life. If the answer is not within the last year, or even never, you are
in for a great surprise. Your ears are not just the outer protective form for all your inner workings that
allow you to hear clearly. They are not there to serve merely as hangers for decorative items that match
your outfit. They can also be used to clearly identify trouble spots in your body and, with a combination
of acupuncture and Essential Oils, your ears can be used to support your health.
D. Gary Young developed auricular aroma technique after using essential oils in acupuncture
applications in his clinic. Auricular aroma technique is the integration of essential oils with standard
auricular technique. He found that using essential oils with regular acupuncture was extremely
beneficial. As with so many of his techniques, it is often the combination of several methods that
creates the best results. Young found that acupuncture stimulation with essential oils was noticeably
greater than either acupuncture or essential oil application by themselves.
As Young left his first clinical practice and began researching, farming, and teaching, he knew he could
not continue the practice of acupuncture, so he started developing a simplified technique that everyone
could use. This technique is called auricular probe technique, using a small, pen-shaped instrument
with a rounded end to apply the oils to the acupuncture meridians or Vita Flex points on the ears. This
concept can be used in both the emotional and the physical realm.
For example, in the emotional realm, you will find that the very tip of the ear is connected to your
mother, while the area just below that is connected to your emotions about your father. If you
follow the outside edge of your ear down to the lobe, you will come across Vita Flex points that are
connections to depression, feelings of being overwhelmed, and carrying the weight of the world. Your
ear lobe is actually more aligned with your vision, heart and fear. If you move to the physical realm, the
very top outside of your ear will connect you to allergies, your tonsils, and your appendix. Your ear lobe
is aligned with blood pressure, upper and lower teeth, nervousness and tonsils. Choose your favorite
soothing essential oil, and apply a drop or two to the area in which you would most like support. You’ll
be amazed at the results.

EDR – Different Schools of Application

In today’s fast paced world where we are becoming more and more conscious of our health and wellness, it’s important that we are very aware of what we’re putting into our bodies.  The television and radio waves are full of ads for miracle drugs to help you lose weight, quit smoking, make millions, and have the body you want – all with a price tag and all with a great deal of fine print to explain why it would take a true miracle for these products to work.

It is time to turn back to nature – what comes from the earth and what our bodies can easily use and put to work toward bettering our bodies, inside & out.  Essential Oils are key to that process but how do you know the best way to use your new found oils?  How can you make sure that you use them properly to ensure the best results in the best time?  What can you do to make sure you’re getting the most from every oil you use?

There are three different basic schools of thought when it comes to the application of Essential Oils – French, German & English.  The English model suggest diluting a small amount of Essentail Oils into a vegetable oil and using that mixture as a sort of massage oil to help with relaxation and relieving stress.  The French model promotes ingesting the oils and applying them to the skin without the diluation.  A common form of the internal use here is to add a few drops of the oil to bread or some kind of honey before eating to yield the best health benefits.  And last but not least is the German model which focuses on inhaling the Essential Oils.  Much research has shown that the effect of aromatic compounds on the sense of smell can exert strong effects on the brain, especially in the hypothalamus (hormones) and the limbic (emotions) systems.

So which of the three do you use?  All of them!  Studies show that the three models used in tandem show versatility of the oils and offer you the most positive results.  By integrating all three models into Vita Flex, touch therapy, spinal touch, lymphatic massage and more, you will gain the best possible benefits.

Different Essential Oils lend themselves well to different delivery mechanisms. For example, if your goal is to increase hormone secretion, induce weight loss, or balance your mood, it might be better to inhale the oils.  Sandalwood, peppermint, lavender and white fir oils are all effective when inhaled.  However, when applied topically, Marjoram is highly effective in treating sore muscles; LemonGrass is great for ligaments and Wintergreen targets the bones.
